Website accessibility

A website everyone can use, checked and fixed in the code.

About one in four US adults lives with a disability, and many use a screen reader, a keyboard or large text to get around a website. Making your site easy for everyone to use also lowers your legal risk. I check your site against the WCAG guidelines and fix what I find.

How it works

Four steps, in plain English.

01 · TEST

I test every page

With automated checkers and by hand: keyboard only, a screen reader, zoomed text and color contrast.

02 · LIST

You get a plain-English list

What’s wrong, who it affects, and what I’ll fix.

03 · FIX

I fix it in the code

Image descriptions, headings, form labels, contrast, button names, keyboard focus.

04 · RECHECK

I test again

And give you a short statement page that says what you did and how to reach you for help.

What you get

Everything that’s included.

  • A check of up to 5 pages against the WCAG 2.2 AA checklist (more pages are $25 each)
  • Fixes made in your site’s code, not a widget on top
  • Alt text for images, written for what each photo shows
  • Forms that work with a keyboard and a screen reader
  • Colors adjusted where text is hard to read
  • An accessibility statement page with a way to ask for help

Who it’s for

Made for businesses like these.

01

Restaurants and shops

Menus as images and online ordering are some of the most common problems.

02

Businesses that take bookings

If a customer can’t finish the form, you lose the booking and risk a complaint.

03

Sites I didn’t build

I can check and fix most sites, including WordPress and hand-built ones. Builder sites like Wix limit what can be changed.

FAQ

Common questions

Does the ADA apply to my small business website?

The ADA doesn’t spell out website rules for private businesses, but courts and the Justice Department have treated websites of businesses open to the public as covered, and most lawsuits measure sites against the WCAG guidelines. A lawyer can tell you how it applies to you. I make the site itself usable.

Will this make my site “ADA compliant”?

No one can honestly promise that, because there’s no official certificate. What I can do is check your site against WCAG 2.2 AA, fix what I find, and give you a record of it. That’s the most solid footing I know of, and it’s the right thing for your customers.

Why not add an accessibility widget?

Overlay widgets don’t fix the underlying code, screen reader users often find them worse, and sites with them still get sued. Fixing the site itself is what works.

Can you fix a Wix or Squarespace site?

Partly. Builders limit what can be changed in the code. I’ll tell you what can be fixed and, if needed, what moving the site would cost.

Is this legal advice?

No. I’m a web designer, not a lawyer. If you’ve received a demand letter, talk to a lawyer first, then I can help with the fixes.
