Privacy Policy

Last updated October 1, 2026

This policy explains what information webdesignnerd.com collects, why, and what happens to it. Web Design Nerd is a one-person business owned and run by Doug Weil in Stow, Ohio. When this page says “we,” it means Doug.

The short version

  • We collect what you type into our forms, plus the basic visit data every website sees.
  • We use it to answer you and to understand how the site is used.
  • We never sell your information and never share it for anyone else’s marketing.
  • Email doug@webdesignnerd.com and we’ll delete your information.

What you send us

When you use the Contact form or the Free Website Check form, we receive what you enter: your name, email address, and, if you give them, your phone number, website address, business name and town, and your message. If you use the Get Started form on our Affordable Websites page, we also ask what kind of business you run, which plan and pages you want, whether you sell products online or use Square, whether you own a domain or a logo, how many email addresses you need, and whether your business is veteran-owned. The form emails this to Doug, and a copy is saved in the website’s admin area so a message isn’t lost if an email goes astray.

We use it to reply to you, to do the free check you asked for, and to keep a record of our conversation. We won’t add you to a mailing list unless you ask.

If you call, text, or email us directly, we keep that conversation the same way any business keeps its phone and email records.

What the site records automatically

Like nearly every website, our server logs basic technical details for each visit: your IP address, browser type, the page you asked for, and the time. These logs help keep the site secure and working.

We use Google Analytics, connected through Google’s Site Kit plugin, to see which pages people visit and how they found us. Google Analytics uses cookies and gives us totals and trends, not your name. You can opt out with Google’s browser add-on. We also use Google Search Console, which reports how the site appears in Google search and does not track you on this site.

The site’s fonts load from Google Fonts, which means your browser asks Google’s servers for them and Google sees your IP address.

To keep spam out, our forms use a hidden spam trap and our own spam filter. The filter runs on our own site. It checks how quickly a form was sent and how many messages come from the same connection, using a scrambled version of your IP address rather than the address itself. Messages it flags as spam are kept in the website’s admin area for a short review, so a real message isn’t lost.

Our contact form also uses Cloudflare Turnstile, which checks that a person, not a bot, is sending the form. Cloudflare may process your IP address and browser details for this check under its own privacy policy (cloudflare.com/privacypolicy).

Our free Business Website Analyzer reads the public pages of the website address you type. Our own site fetches those pages for you (browsers can’t do it directly), keeps a copy of each page for up to an hour so a repeat check is quick, and then deletes it. To stop overuse, it counts checks per visitor for 15 minutes using a one-way code made from your IP address, not the address itself. We don’t save the address you type or link it to you.

Our “Ask the Web Design Nerd” box and our contact forms send what you type (including answers you give before stopping partway, and an email or phone number if you leave one) to our own small chat service, so Doug can read and answer it. Doug gets a notification on his phone and a copy by email. Chats and unfinished answers are deleted automatically after 90 days. Your browser also keeps unfinished answers on your own device for up to a week, so you can pick up where you left off. The box uses Cloudflare Turnstile to stop spam bots, and we keep only a scrambled (hashed) form of your IP address, to limit how many questions come from one place.

Who else handles your information

  • Our web host (Liquid Web) stores the website, its logs, and saved form messages.
  • Our email provider delivers form messages and email to Doug.
  • Google provides Analytics, Search Console, and Fonts, under Google’s privacy policy.
  • Cloudflare provides the Turnstile spam check on our forms and hosts the chat service behind the Ask the Web Design Nerd box, under Cloudflare’s privacy policy.
  • ntfy.sh delivers the notification about a new message to Doug’s phone and sends him the email copy.

We may also share information if the law requires it, such as a valid subpoena, or to protect the site or someone’s safety. We don’t sell or rent information to anyone.

How long we keep it

We keep form messages and email as long as they are useful for working with you, and delete them when you ask. Messages flagged as spam are deleted after review. Website backups roll over after 30 days, and server logs are cleared on the host’s regular schedule.

Your choices

  • Ask what we have about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, by emailing doug@webdesignnerd.com.
  • Block or clear cookies in your browser settings. The site still works without them.
  • Use the site without filling out a form. You never need to give us anything to read it.

Children

This site is for businesses. It isn’t aimed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their information. If you think a child has sent us information, email us and we’ll delete it.

Links to other sites

Our pages link to other sites, such as LinkedIn and Google. Their own privacy policies apply once you leave webdesignnerd.com.

Changes

If what the site collects changes, we’ll update this page and the date at the top.
