Most business owners set up their Google Business Profile once and never touch it again. That’s a missed opportunity. Posting short updates keeps your listing looking active, gives people another reason to call, and shows Google you’re an engaged, open business. It takes a couple of minutes once you get the hang of it.
How to add a post
- Search for your business name on Google while signed in to the account that manages it, or open the Google Business Profile app.
- Choose Add update (sometimes labeled “Add post”).
- Pick the type: an update, an offer, or an event.
- Add a photo, a short description, and a button like “Call now” or “Learn more.”
- Publish. It shows up on your profile right away.
What to post: a list of easy ideas
- A recent job with a before-and-after photo
- A seasonal reminder, like furnace checkups in fall or gutter cleaning in spring
- A quick tip your customers would appreciate
- A new service or expanded service area
- Holiday hours or schedule changes
- A team member spotlight
- A link to a helpful article on your website
- A community event you’re sponsoring or attending
Keep posts short and useful
A photo, two or three sentences, and a clear button. Write the way you’d talk to a customer at the counter. Skip the exclamation points and ALL CAPS; they make updates read like ads.
Use real photos
Photos from your phone of real jobs outperform polished stock images for building trust. Make sure they’re well-lit and show the work clearly.
A routine that’s easy to keep
Aim for one post every week or two. A simple way to keep it going: every Friday, pick your best photo from the week and post it with a sentence about the job. That alone keeps your profile fresh all year.
Don’t forget the rest of your profile
While you’re in there, check that your hours are right, answer any new questions people have asked, and reply to recent reviews. Those habits matter as much as posting.

They keep your profile active and can help customers choose you. Think of them as one part of keeping your profile healthy, alongside reviews, photos, and accurate information.
